PhotoSort User Guide – EN

PhotoSort sorts your Mac and in iCloud Photos library by file size and aesthetic quality. It creates two albums – SizeSort and QualitySort – in the Apple Photos app. These albums show your photos and videos arranged in descending order of file size and aesthetic quality. The PhotoSort User Guide explains how to use the macOS app PhotoSort. Download the app here.
Free version:
On launching PhotoSort for the first time, you must allow the app to access your Photos library. This enables PhotoSort to: a) analyze and sort your Photos library, and b) create SizeSort and QualitySort albums in the Photos app. On granting access, this screen appears:

- Click the System Photo Library button, navigate to the library’s location, and select it. Its default location is in the Pictures folder, and extension .photoslibrary. Its icon is like the Photos library icon.
If you have only one Photos library, then it is the System Photos library. If you have more than one, Photos > Settings > General shows which one is your System library. PhotoSort can only sort the System Photo library.
- After selecting the System library, click Sort. PhotoSort sorts the library and shows thumbnails of three of your largest and three of your best photos and videos. Note that it’s three of the largest or best – not the three largest or best.
At this point, you have the option to purchase PhotoSort with its full functionality:

Purchased version:
After a one-time purchase you can create SizeSort and QualitySort albums in the Mac Photos app.
Clicking Sort in the purchased version displays this message:

- Click OK to create the sorted albums in the Photos app and save a listing of your largest photos and videos. After this, you’ll see the following message:

You can find the largest items list under the View menu and in your Downloads folder.
- Albums in Photos app: PhotoSort saves the SizeSort and QualitySort under My Albums. If your Mac syncs with an iPhone or iPad, these albums also appear on those devices.
- Setting file size filters: You can limit the inclusions in the albums via Settings:

- Subsequent runs: If SizeSort and QualitySort already exist and you run PhotoSort, the existing albums are deleted and updated ones are created. When Photos shows an alert about album deletion, don’t let it confuse you – just click Delete.
